7 Things to Do in the 7 Minutes it Takes For Your Coffee to Brew

Good Morning, Penny Darlings!

It is so exciting to be talking to you today! Preston and I got him a new car this week! (eep!)….and we went… *drum roll* RING shopping! So stay tuned for that! It’s killing me not to know!

I am so excited. I have THREE Halloween posts coming up this year! THREE! And I shot like 99% of them this week and I am PUMPED. So pumped. Literally can’t wait. They look SO freaking cute. And I’ll post them with PLENTY of time for you to nab stuff in time for Halloween!

Check me out on Instagram here! I also started a Twitter account! Find that here! Follow Preston’s brand new fashion Instagram here! I also have a selling Instagram page where I sell some of my old clothes/styles so that I don’t drown in my own wardrobe.

And there’s some fun collabs, something that has been on my mind recently, and a few big announcements coming soon! V. Excited.

But it’s been tons of meetings and photoshoots and scheduling and I’m freaking exhausted. It’s just been non-stop for the last two weeks. If I haven’t answered your texts – I am so sorry.

But as anyone who is constantly working and is a total work-a-holic then you’ll know how truly essential coffee is from day to day. Now, don’t get me wrong, ya’ll know that I am a DIE HARD Dunkin Donuts iced coffee drinker. But I usually start with some hot coffee brewed at home (especially now that it’s getting chilly!).

One of my personal faves is Rhetoric Coffee. I used to just drink whatever was around (whatever my dad when I lived at home or roommates or Preston) and I was not particular at all. (Check Rhetoric Coffee out on social media! Check them out on Instagram here and Facebook and Twitter here!)

And then (and I’m sure some podcast superfans will know!) I heard about Rhetoric Coffee on My Favorite Murder the podcast! And they were talking about this coffee company that did blends that were unique (brewing new small batch blends every two weeks), commissioned artists for the artwork for each blend of bag (and of course, supporting artists is important to me), that they were a small team, and the coffee beans are all locally imported and they roast them themselves!

And all of that sounds awesome, but I was super excited about the artwork and that they commission and pay artists. That is such a cool message for me and I love it. And since they blend new batches every two weeks – every blend has different art. And you know, Preston and I are actors and hang out with artists and actors and creatives. I lovelovelove companies that support the arts in any way.

So I immediately had to try it. I ordered my first bag with my MFM code and became obsessed. They say that ‘they like to play with tastebuds’ and they aren’t kidding and if you hate it – there’s something new in two weeks. Some blends are dark roasts with notes of chocolate and red wine and light roasts with notes of grapefruit. It’s insane.

I digress. But so when I heard this ad on My Favorite Murder (where are my murderinos at?) –  I had to try it. Loved it. Love the vibe of the art and the interesting blends and their company culture and the coffee is SUH good.

So, I reached out to Rhetoric and asked if they wanted to work with me too. In addition to great coffee – I am also excited that I am working with a brand that supports artists and content creators.

But as a constant work-a-holic, I feel like doing nothing while my coffee is brewing is a TOTAL waste of time. So I’ve tried to come up with a few strategies and tasks of things you can do while your coffee is brewing!

1.) Stretch

I like to stretch. I am really bad at motivating myself to get out of bed because my bed is comfortable and Preston is in it. Even just taking two minutes to stretch helps me wake up and not have as much back pain later in the day.

If I am feeling very ambitious or it’s nice out or I only want to do one task while my coffee is brewing – I just go out on the porch and get some fresh air. This is also an option for those people who are now SO freaked out about me putting my leg on the counter.

2.) Plan & Goals

I like to grab my Purposeful Planner and see what is on the slate for the day so I can kind of plan how long each thing will take or how much I need to do. This particular planner also has a spot for goals for the day so I like to take a minute to think of three attainable goals for the day. It’s a nice, easy, and low key way to hold yourself accountable.

3.) Do a Chore

I hate chores. More than anything. The dishes may as well be the plague. But a few months ago I saw a viral video of a military officer who was giving a motivational speech at a college about making your bed. He said to make your bed first thing in the morning because then no matter how your day goes – you accomplished something.

So doing a few dishes, emptying the dishwasher, taking out the trash, wiping the counter, making the bed, folding your socks, fill up the Brita, whatever. If you take one minute to do any one thing – then you have accomplished something today and I really liked that mindset to start my day.

4.) Clean Out the Junk Mail

So, I usually wake up with around 100 e-mails, even when I have it empty when I go to bed the night before. And that’s a lot. And only about 30-40 of them are worthwhile. I do a TON of online shopping and work with TONS of companies. And the other 60-70 of my e-mails are newsletters, updates from job search companies that I don’t need, coupons, discounts, total spam or junk, etc. So taking just two minutes to delete all of that junk makes sitting down to start working seem a little more manageable and less overwhelming.

5.) Drink a Glass of Water

It’s amazing to me how many people don’t drink water. At all. (*cough cough Preston*) They have like one cup of water every other day and I’m amazed that they don’t literally shrivel up and die from no water. It’s batshit. Start your day with a glass of water and see how much better you feel! It’s better!

6.) Prep Your To-Go Mug

If you are constantly traveling, hitting the road, or rushing to work, or whatever – I usually only can drink a mug or two and I hate throwing my coffee away. So I like to make sure my mug is ready to go with a little sugar and cream so I can just pour a cup of coffee in the to-go mug and go!

And if you are as extra as me – they will match each other.

7.) Say Good Morning to Your Loved Ones

Especially in the wake of another tragedy in our country, if you can take a moment to text your mom that you love her, to give an extra smooch or snuggle to your loved ones, or to ruffle your kids’ hair, it’s a nice way to start the day by sharing a little extra love.
