Welcome Back, Penny Darlings!
Happy Thursday! I am writing to you today fresh from the last night of tech night (Wednesday!). Today is opening night of Sweeney! It’s a great show and I’m so excited to open it! If you’re local and not busy tonight – check out Sweeney Todd at EPAC! Break a leg to everyone tonight! They’ve been working hard while I’ve been helping in the costume shop!
I’ve also done TONS of meal prepping this week. Like, Monday I made pumpkin crab soup for lunch, mashed potato and corn and crock pot chicken bowls for dinner, then we had fajitas for lunch, and a pesto veggie pasta dish for dinner, then we had leftover chicken and broccoli and rice. Oh! And Tuesday – we shared this AMAZING dish. It was actually made by our neighbor, Surbhi, who has recently moved here from India and is always making the MOST delicious dishes and is always sharing them. So, we had this grain pizza kind of thing and it was a show stopper.
Are you interested at all in me posting some recipes for lazy people? Because that’s me. I am the queen of semi-homemade food. And it’s a huge time and money saver. Let me know!
As always – check me out on Instagram here! I also started a Twitter account! Find that here! Follow Preston’s brand new fashion Instagram here! I also have a selling Instagram page where I sell some of my old clothes/styles so that I don’t drown in my own wardrobe.
So let’s talk about the topic of the day: DIY Costumes for Lazy People
Because, that’s me. Lazy. I never have tons of money to spend on a costume. I never think about it until wayyyyy to late and I am prone to changing my mind.
There was one year that Preston and I did four couple costumes because we were invited to four Halloween parties.
But, I lovelovelove pulling pieces out of my closet and mixing them with inexpensive add-ons. My big ‘add-on’ for this was $1 eye masks from Party City. They came in like 25 colors/patterns. And I spent all of about eight dollars at the party store for these looks.
I also mixed and matched tights/masks to make all of my actual clothes work for these pieces.
So check out some of my ‘out of the closet’ looks!
Pin Up Wonder Woman
With the popularity of Wonder Woman this year paired with my VERY retro closet – I was lacking in body suits and knee high gold boots but had enough to do a ‘Disney bounding’ style Wonder Woman.
Paired with a Patriotic eye mask – this became my total retro Wonder Woman ‘superhero bounding’ look!
You can get my skirt here! I thrifted this top but here’s a dupe option for a red striped top!
(Bonus, if you nab my skirt – they’re having an AMAZING sale right meow.)
And as this whole post – I got this patriotic eye mask from Party City. It cost me $1. Literally one dollar.
Robber
I grabbed an LBD from my closet, added a black headband, some WeLoveColors tights, and went to Party City for my black eye mask.
Dupe this look:
This LBD from Society+ is a good dupe – but any LBD will do!
These black and white striped tights from WeLoveColors!
The Rainbow
This look is fun, bright, whimsical, and completely made from items in my closet. And obviously, this is my rainbow outfit!
I had this Eshakti dress tucked in to my skirt to make a top, this Modcloth Rainbow Skirt, some lilac WeLoveColors tights, a yellow headbow, and this Party City rainbow mask.
Find these tights here, a dupe of the rainbow skirt, & the Eshakti dress here!
Candy Corn
Dupe this look:
Society+ Orange Rust Faux Suede Dress
White & Yellow We Love Color Tights
My candy corn bow was something I found at a rummage sale for a quarter – but this bow would be a good dupe! And these white shoes are still available from Zappos!
*White Mask is from Party City
Cat
So this is a totally basic look. I paired my fave LBD with some cheetah flats, and kitty cat earmuffs.
But this is the easiest from ‘office’ to ‘costume’ transition.
And LBD would work for this. Or even a cheetah dress. Or a black skirt and black top.
I got my cat earmuffs at Kohls a few years ago – but THESE are a pretty exact dupe ALSO FROM KOHL’S. Weird. And I nabbed these cheetah flats from WalMart. Here’s the link to them. Less than $6.
Please tell me your Halloween costumes! I still have at least one more Halloween post coming up!
I’ll be at opening night tonight and YA GIRL IS PUMPED!
