Elements LookBook

Happy Hump Day, ya’ll!

Welcome back to another exciting day of Penny Darling! Or…more accurately…another coffee fueled morning where I have fifty things to do BEFORE noon and I feel like I’m barely denting them!

Anything exciting happening? Hmm. Lots of content in the next few weeks! And ya’ll. My Christmas fashion post is the most EXTRA thing of all time. Literally, the most extra thing of all time. I can’t even deal. Stay tuned for that.

And…LOTS of exciting collabs coming up. Like, five things that I am SUPER pumped to share AND the proposal story is coming on Friday! So if you’ve been on pins and needles for that – this should help!

But today, I have a look book to share! Yay look book!

This LookBook inspiration came out of complete coincidence. I had the gorgeous blue Kiyonna dress (featured below) on my ‘to photograph today’ list and I knew how I wanted to style it but not exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Lauren and I were driving around looking for the perfect shoot location for it and we came across this HUGE, gorgeous, water inspired, blue mural in midtown. It was amazing and Lauren said, ‘in that dress, with that mural, you’ll look like a water goddess’ and then this crazy idea was born.

This was so much fun to shoot and I am OBSESSED with how water and earth came out. So freaking COOL!

This LookBook is based on four elements:

Water, Earth, Fire, & Air

So for my water look, I styled this GORGEOUS Kiyonna dress (all blue jersey stretch tie dye) with my throwback headband to add a more polished and whimsical look!

This dress has AMAZING sleeves, a cinched waist with a braided tie, is the sofest and stretchiest jersey (you know, ya girl is a sucker for jersey) and a neckline that doesn’t show too much. BONUS: It’s on SAAAALE!

Kiyonna is actually doing this amazing thing today (they’re still rocking an up to 65% off sale) with the code: GIVEJOY – where you get 25% off $100 and then Kiyonna donates a dress to women in need (think women returning to the workforce, veterans, military spouses, etc.) – so if you’re shopping today – you’re also supporting women in need!

For my Earth look (which came out FREAKING gorgeous!) we stumbled upon this AMAZING location. Seriously amazing. It’s an abandoned greenhouse and nursery with gorgeous destruction. It’s seriously amazing.

I paired my Avenue leather jacket with my Modcloth green velvet jumper to have this amazing earth tone look.

Also, this is not just a greenhouse. The whole lot is abandoned. That’s an entire store, outside nursery, two green houses, it’s an expansive lot of destruction and abandonment and it’s AMAZING!

So, seriously, this lookbook was forged from a spark of an idea while we were in the middle of shooting something else. I only mention this for the sheer crazy that is the fact that I made this whole outfit (including the flame) from stuff I just HAD IN MY CAR!

My car has long since become the ‘blog-mobile’ and my trunk is PACKED with shoes, hats, purses, headbands, scarves, etc. Anything & everything – it’s in there!

So, I literally pulled this ENTIRE look out of my car (the jumpsuit was also in my car – but I was photographing it for something else but ANYWAY!)

This was my take on ‘fire’ featuring my Eloquii jumpsuit!

This is one of my fave dresses from way back in the day! It’s a retired ModCloth print – but it was TOO perfect for this!

But the dress does have a cute story, I actually bought this dress from a ModCloth BST group (buy/sell/trade) on Facebook. Those are big FB groups where people can post retired and worn ModCloth/Vintage Inspired Plus Sized items for sale and I shop the absolute EFF out of that group.

A dear internet pal of mine posted this (for $35, I think!) and I said I would take it, but two days later she told me that her daughter had accidentally ruined it with an iron. I told her no worries at all, that it was $35 extra for me, no stress at all! Two weeks later it arrived at my door with a birthday card from this pal and some other ladies in the group who had decided to send it for my birthday and had fibbed about the iron! See, sometimes nice stuff happens on the internet!
