Hey, ya’ll.
That’s right. Today: we’re going there.
Periods. Aunt Flow. Menstruation Station. Time of the Month. The Curse. Code Red. Playing Bloody Mary. Shark Week. The Crimson Tide. The inciting incident of the movie: Carrie.
No matter what you call it, it’s pretty universal to, like, half the population.
While it is a natural bodily function, and can often be a sign of uterine and ovarian health and regularity, it can still suck…big time. It sucks for your friends, your wife, your mom, your sister, etc. It sucks for everyone. And we’re all SO AWKWARD ABOUT TALKING ABOUT IT.
Between cramps, PMS, mood swings, breakouts, discomfort, headaches, migraines, and the general weirdness of bleeding for a few days – it can be a nightmare and a half.
I’ve always struggled with bad PMS (cramps, tenderness, zits galore, etc.) and then a lot of cramping since I had my IUD placed a few years ago.
When I started talking to the team at Forever Brazen, I knew they were on to something! While periods are normal, suffering is NOT! It’s NOT fun and it’s definitely NOT necessary and NOT normal!
Forever Brazen is a subscription (or one time buys!) for PMS & Cramp Support Supplements are filled with proprietary blends that are chemical free & hormone free! The blends are for pain relief, anti-inflammatory, hormonal health, mental health, and easy flow to not only treat tough periods, but to prevent them from getting tough in the first place!
I started using Forever Brazen when my PMS symptoms started and through my most recent cycle. I use an app to track my cycle (10/10 everyone should!) and I noticed I tracked a LOT less cramps, breast pain, and headaches during this cycle!
However, as your friendly Let’s-Talk-About-Periods-Advocate, I want to share six things that will make your period a lot less awful!
Let me just sneak the boring stuff so we can get to the goods! Check me out on Instagram here! I also have a selling Instagram page where I sell some of my old clothes/styles so that I don’t drown in my own wardrobe.
1.) Chocolate!
Yes, there’s real science to prove that chocolate (especially dark!) can be good during periods! (Check out this article on Goop written by Kirsten Karchmer of Forever Brazen!). Indulging a bit of a sweet tooth, getting a little extra magnesium, and it tastes pretty freaking good are all good reasons to try this method.
2.) Caffeine-free Tea
Caffeine can totally make your cramps & PMS feel worse, but the natural peppermint tea can settle upset stomachs, helps with digestion, & tastes good hot & cold!
I love sticking a few tea bags in my water bottle before bed so I have some fresh, cold, Peppermint tea in the morning! It’s totally refreshing and helps with any icky stomach feelings caused by periods.
3.) Exercise
I know, I know, it sounds like a cliche…and the very last thing you want to do – but taking a walk, hitting the gym, swimming some laps, doing some yoga, anything to get a little active can make a huge difference.
I like to do some low impact yoga & hitting the elliptical at the gym to stretch my sore muscles and do some low-impact (on my knees & hips) cardio!
4.) Forever Brazen
Again, maybe I’ve mentioned it, but the PMS & Cramps Support Supplements are a natural game-changer for my Aunt Flow. These supplements are meant to work with your body chemistry to ease 20 symptoms of mental and physical side effects from your cycle.
Forever Brazen recommends multiple uses over several cycles to get the full benefits, but I’m loving it already! Shop the Period Pack here!
5.) Stay Hydrated
This is just good life advice. Literally, water is good for everything in your body. It’s good for your skin, your digestion, your organ health, headaches, muscle spasms, etc. Obviously, it’s good for your cycle, too. It’s the miracle elixir that everyone always forgets. DRINK YOUR DANG WATER, YA’LL.
6.) A Good Book & Comfy Pants
This one isn’t based in science of any kind.
Taking a little time to read, a few minutes for yourself, and a little self-care is just general good advice. (I’m currently reading The Night Circus…again, and I’m obsessed!)
Again, comfy pants may not do anything scientific, but it sure is a way better way to live! Ha!
