Happy Tuesday, Penny Darlings!
As we approach closer & closer to the holiday season, it’s getting busier and crazier! Or at least it is in the Darling household! Between getting ready for Preston to open his play (Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, whaaaat!), shopping, cleaning, traveling, working, and spreading a little cheer – I’m constantly on the move.
As we kick into lots of travel & projects – I’m trying to enjoy every last second of self-care, rest, & relaxation that I can get. So today, I teamed up with Not Your Mother’s brand to share how I’m taking my R&R seriously this holiday season!
I love having Not Your Mother’s on hand for every hair need I might have. A daily routine: BAM, they’ve got me covered. A HalloweenHalloween lookbook? DOUBLE BAM! NYM has got my back for that too! And now, for taking extra care of my hair, NYM comes through again with their Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub . And TRIPLE BAM: I can shop any of these things at my local Ulta or Whole Foods!
1.) Get cozy
I lovelovelove sporting my favorite bathrobe, jammies, slippers, or really anything comfy. I spend so much time dressing up, caring about every part of an outfit, or even planning a look – that it’s nice to just throw on something I know I can feel comfortable AND cute in.
So I obviously put on my rainbow unicorn bathrobe to kick off my day or relaxation right! Then I snuggled up on my cozy couch!
2.) Spend time with people who don’t suck.
This one is so simple, and so few people actually do it. Spend your self-care time with people you want to be with! It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by friends, family, or co-workers during the holidays – so taking a few hours just to snuggle up with my husband and my dog makes me the happiest camper of all time.
3.) Do a deep clean….of yourself.
This might sounds weird, but reclaiming a shower as part of self-care is another awesome thing. I use Not Your Mother’s Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub to deep clean my hair. Between hairspray, dry shampoo, dry air, winter wind, and my (shh) colored hair – it’s so easy to let my hair get into rough shape.
I take my time in the shower on my self-care days. I like to wet my hair and use the Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub to get out the impurities, detoxify, and cleanse my hair. Then I rinse, follow it up with a the Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone shampoo & conditioner! I always feel like my hair gets a nice deep clean & condition while restoring my pH balance! Then finish it with the butter masque to really keep in that moisture and restore my hair from any frizz!
4.) Get some snacks
….and don’t share them! (or do, but I’m not!). I feel like I’m always feeling pressure to meal prep, grocery shop, eat healthy, stay ahead of the curve, but what about popcorn. I freaking LOVE popcorn.
I also feel like there is a lot of shame built around people (especially women!) eating things that are actually really good. So on your day of care, consider one day of guilt free (and that means self-guilt too!) of snacking.
I like to take Movie Theatre Butter popcorn and sprinkle a little Adobo seasoning on top! It’s such a yummy blend.
AND FOR REAL, I threw that piece of popcorn and CAUGHT IT IN MY DANG MOUTH! Like a pro! *shoulder brush* but no big deal.
5.) Actually get some rest!
Again, seems SO obvious, but people are TERRIBLE at this! When we have a day off, we all tend to want to run errands, do chores, clean, pay bills, exercise, do all that stuff. It feels good to get that stuff done, but make sure to carve out some couch potato time. Block a few hours to just mindlessly play games on your phone, binge a TV show you’ve been wanting to catch up on, don’t answer your texts, just relaaaaaaax.
I know I can be bad at this. I have a terrible time turning my brain or my need to feel busy or like I’m working off, so it’s something I’ve been working on!
