5 Ways to Make Your Workout Less Terrible

Happy Monday, Penny Darlings!

This is an exciting Monday! Well, not so much exciting, as it just feels like today is going to be a great day!

Since Preston and I have set our big date! (if you missed that post – check it here!) we have started sweating for the wedding! And by that, I mean, we started working out like right after we got engaged. Or…at least, set a fairly regular work out schedule!

And as a person who can have some real trouble getting motivated in the mornings to get up and go work out – I wanted to share some tips that have made my workouts WAY less sucky!

 

1.) Get a cute outfit!

This may sound super silly – but I was wearing old ratty leggings with a huge oversized t-shirt when I went to the gym. It was baggy and uncomfortable and the really high crew neck bothered my neck when I ran. I swear, I got some comfy, cute, and functional work out gear and it totally changed my game. I felt more confident and I pushed myself harder because of it!

I snagged this outfit from Avenue! This terry sweatshirt has a wide neck, it’s breathable, loose fitting, and cute! Perfect combo! And I got these athletic leggings with a gray inset at the ankle! They are supportive, comfy, and stretchy!

2.) Grab a buddy!

When I hit the gym – I love going with Preston! I also love taking long walks around the neighborhood with my best pal, Harvey! And he loves it too! (especially when there’s squirrels and bunnies to chase!). It feels good to have Preston at the gym with me to keep me motivated! But when I work out at home – it’s me and Harvey!

3.) Get a KILLER playlist!

I used to listen to podcasts while I worked out to mark how much time I had been working out.

But you know what really pumps me up when I step on the treadmill for a jog to warm up?

The song Getcha’ Head in the Game from High School Musical.

For real, trust me, on that one! It has the BEST rhythm to get you started on a good running path. You all are laughing – put it as a treadmill song and thank me later! (Other good musical theatre workout songs: Do You Hear the People Sing?)

4.) Hydrate!

I feel like this one is self explanatory – but you’d be amazed how little water Preston drank when we first started working out. I’m a person that drinks a TON of water and Preston NEVER drinks water. So, if you’re a Preston – DRINK WATER.

Drink water during the day and the night and when you’re not working out. Just double and triple what you used to be drinking. It will make your workouts better and easier, helps with muscle tension, keeps your skin nicer, your organs healthy. It’s all the things.

5.) Stretch!

So important, yet so often rushed! When you’re trying to workout before work, fit it in quick before making dinner, or even right before bed – it can be easy to forego the stretching, but it makes a world of difference! And even Harvey likes to get in on it!
